July 21st, 1940

Photobucket

Last week I went to Cats Pajamas Antiques and spent the better part of an afternoon going through the huge basket of old photos they had for 50 cents each. I found these four photos of these four girls, as cute as can be. My grandma pointed out the lady in the white is a waitress, too bad they don't say what restaurant!

The back of the top photo reads "Ida, Betty, Janie, and Bettie July 21, 1940 Kelso Wash."

These photos are so similar to my last post, one girl even has a scarf around her neck just like Janey did!

I really love the little skirt and bolero set the last photo features, I think that might be my next project...

I love old photos! It's so wonderful seeing what real people wore. And gosh, all of those shoes!! *swoon!*

The jacket and skirt set in the last picture immediately caught my eye, too. It's just gorgeous!

Oh early 1940s girls, you were so, so incredibly stylish! I love all of these ladies, but think it's the first gal in the first photo who's caught my attention most - and it's because of her hair. I used to wear my hair in a somewhat similar style back in high school, but had kind of forgot about that style in the years since. I'm thinking I'm going to have to give it a go again really soon to see if it still works on an (almost) 28 year old :)

Wishing you an marvelous Monday & week ahead,
♥ Jessica

You should try and find the location and recreate the pictures exactly with your friends from the last post (I do see what you mean about the similarities there)

Look at that hair! Even in old photographs the styles were so detailed they really show up well. Beautiful pictures. I wonder what their back stories are?

I do love me a good old photo of "real" people as opposed to photo studios. I wonder what they did with their time - apart from looking fab :)

Vintage fashion, to me, is one of the more interesting parts of fashion. New trends are well and good but in the end there aren't really any new ideas, just reinterpretations. Take the maxi dress for example, enormously popular in the 70's it has suddenly reemerged as the stylish new thing. Beautiful pictures by the way.

I do not know which girl is the one pictured in the last photo, but I adore her ensemble! I really want it for myself now.

I'm another big fan of seeing 'real' photos, while I love Hollywood glamour I get far more inspiration from regular gals!

I LOVE the outfit on the girl with the matching bolero! Wish there was a close-up of those fab shoes. ;)

Thank you so much for hunting these down and sharing. I avoid boxes of photos as I know I'll loose hours in them, but I'm delighted to see your selection!

This is so neat, because my birthday was on this date 57 years later! I love the styles in these photos. Thanks for sharing another piece of history from my home state.

This is so neat, because my birthday was on this date (and in the same state) 57 years later! The styles in these photos are adorable.
Thanks for sharing a bit of history from Oregon.
