My vacuum matches my kitchen appliances.

I get a lot of nice emails from Vixen Vintage readers. However the other day I got a rather unusual one :" This is probably going to sound funny/odd but 'Do you want my vacuum?"

As a matter of fact I do!

Even though we moved into our place in April (or maybe end of March, whatever), Sam and I had yet to buy a vacuum for our carpeted apartment. For the record, I hate carpet. Rugs, I am in favor of, but beige industrial carpet? Just writing that sentence makes my nose wrinkle.
So if having an ugly carpet was not enough, I would also have to get an ugly vacuum. No thanks, I'll just keep the curtains closed and pretend the floor stays clean, and buy a hat instead. That is my logic: Why buy something ugly and practical when I can have something pretty and unpractical?!

And for that reason I have more hats and dresses than I can ever hope to show you, and until yesterday, no vacuum.

But when pretty and practical marry, and have gorgeous, useful offspring, I am in heaven.

Jessi, a sweet and need I say generous blog reader, stopped by my workplace yesterday and dropped off this little beauty of a vacuum, it's a reproduction 1950s Eureka! She is moving and didn't want to haul it with her, and thought I might appreciate it's retro prettiness. I have not been so excited over a vacuum since I asked for one for Christmas when I was 4 (I was a weird kid).

When I got home I used it right away and it is surprisingly powerful! Now I can open the curtains! Woohoo!

I currently cannot bring myself to put it away in the closet, so it sits in my living room, just being pretty. The only info I could find on it (actually Jessi sent it to me), is this Amazon listing, which doesn't even have them for sale, it just taunts you.

So thank you a million times to Jessi, now I can pretend to be June Cleaver without a hitch ;)

That is fabulous! I was looking at antique vacuums recently in a thrift store, but none were in that nice of shape, so I didn't buy one.

I have a secret--Even though we moved in February I still don't have a vacuum either!! I never planned on living in an apartment with carpet again, so got rid of my vacuum some years back! I have to run around with a little hand held vacuum and do spot cleaning!

Haha! Thats what I did too Cedar! My poor little handheld vac :)

bleh, I"m with you on the carpet situation. I did not know a vacuum cleaner made in the past 20 years could be NOT ugly-- I wonder how does it compare to the ones at the Stark vacuum museum?
gorgeous dress too

I work at Stark's Vacuums! There are 9 locations and I work at the one on Grand and Couch ave. in Portland the one with the vacuum museum. I love working there, I work in the office. I love looking at the vacuums in the museum too. The ones on display in the museum are from the late 1800's to the 1960's. Come and visit some time.

Oh my, that is just the cutest little vacuum I've ever seen! I had to turn my laptop so my cobalt blue Bissell wouldn't get jealous. She knows I love her and the way she drags me down the hall when the brush is on... but that Eureka is just darling!

Bettie, that's the vacuum I wanted! Mainly just because it's purple. My boyfriend says I'm insane.

You do the vacuum more justice than I ever did!
It's pretty fun to see it in a blog post...it never got a photo shoot when it lived with me...poor thing.
It was, obviously, meant to be yours.
Yay!

Haha! That's so awesome that somebody offered you a vacuum cleaner!

I smiled when reading this because we're so alike. I hate hate hate loooathe HATE carpet. Thankfully we've had wood floors for the past 4 years, but now we're living in this 1800's house with wide plank pine floors. There are huge gaps that need to be vacuumed out, where crumbs fall, but I can't bring myself to spend the money on one. :)

What a beautiful vacuum--and I love that it matches your appliances! ;)

I rather hate carpet too; I'm hoping one day we can move somewhere that has hardwood floors. Carpet does nothing for me (except increase my allergy problems ;), and is usually so ugly. lol. At least you can clean your carpet in style! ;)

Oh my God, a houndstooth vacuum? I want! It's beautiful! That hideous beige carpet is the worst, isn't it? So depressing! That rug you have in the picture is gorgeous.

I love that it is called the rug u lator!

I vacuum once every blue moon. Epic housepride fail. Can't stand carpet either. It is a cruel twist of fate even our bathroom is carpeted! How stupid is that? At least my kitchen is a carpet free zone. There's soemthing to be grateful for ;-)

There's a few more bits of information about it on Youtube:

"A remake of a 1950's Eureka produced in 2003 in honor of Eureka's 95th anniversary. These haven't been in production since 2003 and were a limited edition. These are very rare."

Leanne, no those were wedding gifts.

Oh, you're so lucky! What a gift!
The last one of those that I saw went for around four hundred dollars on eBay. I wish that they would release a new line of them. Houndstooth AND aqua? It almost makes vacuuming fun!
